Delorean Events

EuroTec 2007

In June of 2007, members of the DOC (Delorean Owners Club) spent a weekend at Old Hunstanton in Norfolk. The weekend was based around 'Workshop / Tech sessions'. We also took some scenic drives out and around the area.

Specialists were on hand to provide us with technical and hands on assistance over the course of the event. This involved engine tuning, wheel alignment, minor bodywork re-graining / repairs, Torsion bar adjustments. .. etc etc ! It overtook last years lotus event as the largest ever gathering of Deloreans in the UK! (about 34 cars)

Lotus 2006

In June of 2006, members of the DOC (Delorean Owners Club) spent a weekend at the home of the Lotus Car Company at Hethel, in Norfolk. This formed part of the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the first production car. The Lotus Car Ltd carried out extensive development work on the Delorean before it went into production and amongst other things, the car has a lotus designed wishbone chassis.

There were three guest speakers and qwners got the chance to drive their cars around the Lotus test track. They also took the opportunity to take a convoy of 30 Deloreans to the seaside. It was the largest ever gathering of Deloreans in the UK!

Basildon UCI

In October 2005, 26 Deloreans gather at the UCI cinema in Basildon for a showing of the BTTF trilogy. It was the largest ever gathering of Deloreans in England. However this has now just been beaten by the afore mentioned lotus Event!

The BTTF replica car was even put on display INSIDE the cinema complex. By all accounts this was not an easy task (even time travel doesn’t help squeeze cars into small spaces)!

A great time was had by all! Delorean owners and of course all BTTF film enthusiasts had a great night out.

Film Fan's Delight at DeLorean Dream Buy

Chris & Suzanne Williams have recently taken over the running of Delorean-hire.co.uk. This was after acquiring their 1981 DeLorean in 2004.

Chris Williams (40) said “I’ve always wanted a Deorean since seeing the Back To The Future films when I was in my teen’s. Having had various classic cars over the years, I finally realised my dreams in 2004 when I purchased a recently re-imported DMC-12 from Nevada in the US. It’s great fun to drive and never fails to attract attention”.

Chris & Suzie Williams out with their Delorean, at a classic car show in their home town of Royston, Herts. The weather stayed sunny for a lovely May Day this year.

Chris finds the time for travel!

MOTOR mad Chris Hawes does not have to worry about crippling new-car depreciation – when it comes time to sell he can just wind the clock back to the day it was built, writes Steve Larner.

The sales executive from Shenley Brook End drives an eye-catching De Lorean like the one in the time-travelling movie trilogy Back To The Future.
"It is the same as the one in the movie with five speed gearbox, grey interior and special bonnet," he said this week – though his 1981 model does not have the 'flux capacitor' as fitted by the 'Prof' in the films to allow travel through time.
Even without the cinematic connections the car with its gull-wing doors and brushed stainless steel bodywork the car is still a show-stopper.
"Visits to the filling station can turn into epics," said Chris.
"I bought her three years ago and have heard most of the quips – though someone asked me where Einstein the dog was the other day and I hadn't heard that one before," he said.
The De Lorean was already a legend in the auto industry before Robert Zameckis chose it as a star alongside Michael J Fox.
Built in a factory in Northern Ireland constructed using millions of pounds of British taxpayers' money, it was the brainchild of American John De Lorean.
Beset by technical, marketing and political troubles, just 10,000 were assembled with most going to the US – just as a fuel crisis arrived.
Despite having a mongrel background with Cortina brakes at the front, Jaguar at the rear, a Renault engine and Lotus gearbox, the cars are still popular with enthusiasts.
Three years after paying £11,500 to have his imported from the States, Chris reckons his is now worth £17,000 and he hopes to hire it out for weddings and events.
And with stainless body panels there are few cars that can be spruced up with kitchen sink cleaner!
